Children's House Montessori Burlington's Premiere Montessori School

She feels children are the most important thing in this material world and personally feels very comfortable working with them. She came to the United States in 2014 and lived in New Jersey for 8 years before moving to Reston. At Guidepost, our mission is to support each child in achieving her own independence. To do this, we help her gain the knowledge, build the skills, and craft the personal character she needs to flourish. Above all, our goal is to cultivate joy—in the pursuit of knowledge, in effort applied to work worth doing, in the achievements of herself and others, and in taking the steps to author her own life. A young child has only very recently learned to speak and understand others.

The Guidepost Approach

The goal is not to memorize and repeat algorithms without understanding where they came from or why one is using them. Rather, the goal is to understand the relationships in reality that give rise to the conventions and processes used in math. When learning about place value, for example, the child uses the golden bead set.

Natural Play Areas

The Montessori method of education is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the highly trained teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Our school offers four programs based upon age and educational needs — toddler, primary, kindergarten, and elementary — serving children ages 18 months to 9 years. At Guidepost, we want to make the best education the best for children and parents. This is why we provide year-round, extended-day programming at no extra cost, enabling consistent and uninterrupted access to the care and developmental support parents expect.

Math

As COVID-19 specific protocols can vary according to state and things are always changing, we recommend contacting the school or schools you are interested in and asking for their most recent rules.

We embrace the diversity we experience in our school, from both the staff and the student body, and welcome families from all backgrounds into our community. Our landlord, the Unitarian Universalist Church in Reston, uses our space for Sunday school classes and other weekend events, and we can not control what foods are brought in during that time. If your child has food allergies, please talk to us about their needs during your tour. We are closed periodically for holidays and seasonal breaks and operate a 6 week summer program for enrolled students. Children’s House Montessori School welcomes students regardless of race, gender, national and ethnic origin, and is non-discriminatory in all our policies. Learn about the differences between Montessori schools and daycare centers, so that you can select the best arrangement for your family.

Math continues the cognitive math development that began in the Practical Life Skills and Sensorial curriculum, taking an acute focus and more abstract thinking process with concrete materials. Children are encouraged to learn by processing information gathered through the senses. In a Montessori Children’s House, the environment is prepared so that a child has access to the tools and guidance he needs to achieve success.

She worked for 3 years as an administrative assistant at World Wildlife Fund and 8 years as a Montessori Assistant Teacher at Montessori Country School in Herndon, VA, leading her to love the Montessori philosophy. Ms. Ananya loves cooking, knitting, gardening, walking and a lot of family time. The teachers are kind and supportive to each child, truly encouraging each to their strengths.

The Guidepost Approach to Developing a Child's Mathematical Mind

Because the language curriculum is aligned with the child’s stage of development, and is designed to isolate skills that the child can focus on one at a time, he advances farther than his peers in traditional education. By the time the child reaches the end of the 3-year program, equivalent to finishing kindergarten year, he is able to read for comprehension and has studied advanced grammar that his peers won’t see until 2nd or 3rd grade. The language and math skills of our kindergartners are on a par with what children in conventional programs learn in 3rd grade or beyond! What’s more, our students learn advanced academics joyfully—while simultaneously developing deep focus, self-discipline, and positive social skills. In a Montessori Children’s House, a young child is given access to a language curriculum at his level, enabling him to build skills without rote drills and without requiring teacher-led lectures.

Children's House Montessori School offers Montessori Pre School, Montessori Day Care and Montessori Kindergarten from two Boca Raton Locations. If you are looking for a high quality Montessori School with well educated teachers, a low teacher student ratio, and a caring staff, please contact Children's House Montessori pre-School and kindergarten for a tour. Our mission is to light the flame of learning that will guide children to their fullest potential and a lifetime of growth. Our goal is for every child who graduates from our school to love learning for a lifetime.

We ask that children be toilet trained prior to their start date,  however we understand that this expectation can cause added stress for both parent and child. Please talk to us about your child’s current potty training status during your tour. At a minimum we do not allow children to attend CHMS in diapers or pull-ups as we do not have diapering stations in place. We are happy to escort children to the restroom and assist as needed, but expect that the toilet training process is already underway and going well before a child joins our community. Please contact us regarding availability for your child, and to schedule your personal tour of our school. We will be happy to answer your questions and provide additional information about our educational programs.

Our caring, exploratory, and peace-centered Montessori curriculum gives us hope for the future. Please help us meet our goal of raising $50,000 in our Annual Appeal. We follow the teaching philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, founder of the Montessori Method and visionary educator who believed that children should be taught with respect for the individual and his or her own needs. Children’s House Montessori School of Reston is a small, family-oriented school located in a peaceful wooded setting in Reston, Virginia. We believe that a child’s first school experience should be filled with curiosity, exploration and opportunities for independence. We offer half-day and full-day Montessori programs for children 3 years of age through kindergarten. Children’s House Montessori School of Reston (CHMS) is a small, family-oriented school located in a peaceful wooded setting in Reston, Virginia. We believe that a child’s first school experience should be filled with curiosity, exploration and opportunities for  independence. Each morning at the Children’s House begins with a routine to help your child get ready for the day ahead of them.

Our school fosters curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking while preparing every child to be a thoughtful, independent, and compassionate global citizen. Ms. Shoruk has worked with children since 2012, as a teaching assistant, after school program director, a nanny and a tutor. She begins her day in the Sunset Room and ends her day supervising the after school program. Keturah’s career in early childhood education spans more than 45 years. She has served as a field consultant for interns taking their Montessori training, has been in the Montessori classroom for more than 30 years, and has worked in a “traditional” preschool setting for several years as well. Our wooded playground provides endless opportunities for outdoor enjoyment and our authentic Montessori program guarantees that your child will be part of a thriving, mixed-age classroom.

The outdoor area may include a sandbox, garden, tools, and activities for the children. However, when you visit a Children's House for the first time, you will be struck by how different it feels to a Kindergarten classroom. Quiet, minimal, and uncluttered, each classroom is designed to appeal to the young child's sense of order, their desire to work and their appreciation for beauty. You may wonder where the teacher is, and why all the desks aren't facing the blackboard. Indeed, the Guidepost Montessori Children's House is run in a completely different way to conventional Kindergarten.
